Dr. Humes Says

When we think about why our skin ages, we tend to think of causes such as the sun, smoking, heredity, and our lack of skin care maintenance, but have you ever thought about the sugar you eat? Sugar can be a sly villain in this equation and can easily fly under the radar leaving us in a sticky situation. Did you know that sugar not only causes cavities, it can also age your skin? Glucose attaches itself to proteins rendering them nonfunctional. All cells within the body are comprised of some protein and when proteins are attached to sugars, they cannot work effectively. Collagen makes up about 25% of our body's protein content and when damage from glycosylation or oxidation occurs, the skin becomes saggy and wrinkled. So, next time you need help recovering from that sugar rush, come to VITAHL. We can help you get your skin back to its glowing, wrinkle free perfection.
